In 1996, with Atlantic City near it’s peak popularity, I developed a touch screen system and accompanying business plan and presented it to the Atlantic City Visitor’s and Convention Bureau, and the NJ Department of Tourism in Trenton. The feedback was extremely positive. This graphically attractive interactive display provided links to information to multiple categories related to local tourism-centered businesses. The business plan sought seed money to launch 3 or 4 displays in high traffic areas (eg., The AC Visitor Center and rest stops on the Garden State Parkway). Advertising revenue from restaurants, hotels, golf courses, charter fishing trips, etc., would sustain, maintain and expand the number of kiosk locations. Sadly, nothing happened which I chalked up to bureaucratic incompetence and pay-to-play politics. This was a huge investment of time and an obvious disappointment.
