Business History
Communicating Advantage has been involved with computer graphics since February 1987. Originally doing layout and 'desktop publishing', our offerings were limited by the technology, but we created 35 mm slide presentations, maps, logos and other graphics for larger corporate and utility clients, including:
- Atlantic Energy
- Atlantic City Convention and Visitor's Authority
- South Jersey Transportation Authority
- AC Coin and Slot
- Several AC Casino Properties (Resorts, Bally's & Trump Plaza)
- AC Rescue Mission
As advancements in desktop technology expanded, so did we...growing with the industry, attending seminars and industry trade shows, upgrading hardware and software, and broadening our services. Embracing the change and enjoying the constant learning and expansion.
Macintosh Support
In addition to producing published materials and presentation graphics, we responded to the growing demand for computerization in ministries and businesses and began consulting and training on Macintosh computers.
I was recruited by Atlantic Community College (now Atlantic Cape Community College) where I developed and taught their first Macintosh-based graphics course, appropriately entitled: Business Graphics on the Mac. At the time (in the early 1990's) ACC was an Apple Community College Alliance member and was endowed with significant Apple hardware.
I also taught the lab (i.e. hands on) portion of ACC's Introduction to Computers course (MicroSoft Works), and the college's second-tier programming course - Information Systems and Programming (HyperCard).
For several years Communicating Advantage has provided support for AtlantiCare's Public Relations Department. Initially helping them to realize the cost-savings of digital publishing by bringing the CenterLife (employee newsletter) in-house. (They saved over $700 on the first issue over conventional methods, with improved quality, and more control over last-minute changes.) We developed their original website design, and continue to work with them supporting their Macintosh systems. We designed and coded their online physician search tool, and for several years we updated (usually monthly) the database component of AtlantiCare's Provider Directory.
Training on Macintosh basics, accessing the internet, scanning, web graphics and design, and applications like: Adobe PhotoShop, InDesign and Illustrator, are offered.
I served on the board of the Atlantic City Area Mac User Group for five years and served two years as President.
